Data Analytics Intern - Summer 2027
POSITION LOCATION
This hybrid position is located in Richmond, Virginia.
YOUR ROLE
At Genworth and CareScout, we see your data-driven and analytic mindsets and encourage you to apply to our Data Analytics Intern program. Beginning in Summer 2027, our 11-week internship provides students with valuable experience needed for a successful beginning to any data analytics career. Our interns will collaborate with cross-functional teams to extract, analyze, and interpret large data sets that drive business decisions and strategic initiatives. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of dashboards and reporting tools, performing detailed data validation, and supporting the implementation of analytics projects to enhance operational efficiency. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the insurance and care management sectors while contributing to impactful projects that shape the future of our organizations.
What you will be doing

  • Working in a fast-paced, innovative, and change-oriented work environment
  • Using programming skills to explore, examine and interpret large-scale data in various forms
  • Determine the appropriate techniques to manipulate complex high-volume data, develop insights through analysis and modelling, evaluate business problems, and improve our analytical speed-to-insight
  • Perform data mining and analyzing of structured and unstructured data associated with claims, policy, payment activities to solve complex business problems using advanced techniques and leveraging industry cutting-edge technology
  • Focus on automation and utilizing technology to provide repeatable reporting solutions to promote self-service culture for business partners
  • Building a strong network of peers and mentors
  • Attending on-site technical and professional development classes
  • Presenting accomplishments to leadership across the organization
  • Participating in sponsored community service events
  • Assignments may be on teams across the organization all focused on data analytics - including IT, Operations, CareScout Services, and more


Must Have/What you bring

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a mathematics, data science, statistics, operations research, or other analytical or technical discipline
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale
  • Strong analytical ability and verbal/written communication skills to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with database Rational Database Management System (RDBMS) technologies (e.g., SQL server, Greenplum, Oracle)
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
  • A passion for problem solving, intellectual curiosity, and a customer experience mindset
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, and the ability to demonstrate a sense of urgency and accountability for business problems


Nice To Have

  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Databricks, Azure, Hadoop, Spark, Hive)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Spotfire, Tableau, Python)

National Range: $23.00-$26.00/hour
