Payroll Support Manager

Newport Hospitality Group

Williamsburg, VA • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Re-posted 17 days ago

Job description

Please note: This is an on-site position based in our Williamsburg, VA corporate office. Remote work is not available for this role.
What does a day in the life of a Payroll Support Manager look like?
It starts with making sure hundreds of hotel team members across multiple states are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with company policies and payroll regulations. Hotels operate 24 hours a day, and our payroll team helps keep everything running behind the scenes.
If you enjoy solving problems, staying organized, and working in a fast-paced environment, this could be a great fit. Payroll isn't just about processing checks. It's about supporting employees and helping our hotels operate smoothly.
What you'll do
  • Oversee payroll processing for a growing portfolio of hotels across multiple states
  • Review timecards, PTO balances, approvals, and payroll entries for accuracy
  • Process employee changes including pay rates, transfers, rehires, direct deposit updates, and department changes
  • Import and validate timekeeping files while researching and resolving discrepancies
  • Process garnishments, tax withholdings, deductions, and unemployment requests
  • Submit payroll through ADP Workforce Now
  • Distribute payroll journals and invoices to Accounting and Ownership groups
  • Maintain organized payroll records and assist with payroll audits
  • Answer payroll questions from hotel leaders and team members
  • Work closely with Human Resources and Finance to ensure employee and payroll records remain accurate
  • Look for ways to improve payroll processes and reporting
  • Assist with training and supporting other payroll team members
What makes this role different?
No two days are exactly alike. One morning you may be reviewing payroll for several hotels, and that afternoon you could be helping a General Manager resolve an urgent payroll issue before processing deadlines.
Success in this role comes from being detail-oriented, organized, and responsive. You'll need to balance accuracy, compliance, and great customer service because every paycheck matters.
What we're looking for
  • Payroll experience required
  • Multi-state payroll experience preferred
  • Hospitality payroll experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment
  • A team player who takes pride in accuracy and accountability
Why Newport?
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
  • 401(k) with company participation
  • DailyPay available
  • Opportunities for growth within a growing hotel company
  • A supportive team that values collaboration and operational excellence

Behind every successful hotel is a team making sure the important details are handled correctly. Payroll is one of those details, and the work you do will make a difference for employees across our hotels every payday.
