Job Summary
The Benefits Administrator is a high-impact role essential to the financial integrity, legal compliance, and strategic execution of Sendik's total rewards. As a key specialist within the HR leadership team, you will drive our insurance strategies, lead all ACA measurement and reporting, and provide expert oversight for Leave of Absence (LOA) and disability processes. This role demands a unique blend of analytical rigor and empathetic communication, serving as the primary bridge between Sendik's benefits strategy and the day-to-day well-being of our 1,700+ associates.
Work Experience
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Serve customers, associates, vendors and partners while modeling Sendik's culture and providing "best in class" customer service.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for benefit vendor partners including health and welfare broker
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for associate benefit questions, including responding to emails, phone calls and interacting with our vendor partners.
  • Administers various benefit programs such as group health, flexible spending, dental, vision, life insurance, COBRA, 401(k) and disability benefits; ensuring proper execution according to designs; trouble-shoots and resolves issues
  • Manage the annual and standard measurement periods to determine benefits eligibility. Oversee all ACA compliance reporting, including the timely and accurate filing of 1095-C forms
  • Manage the monthly reconciliation and processing of all benefit-related invoices. Ensure enrollment data across HRIS and vendor platforms is accurate to prevent overpayment and ensure coverage continuity
  • Supervise and serve as the secondary point of contact for the leave of absence process, including FMLA, short-term disability, and personal leaves. Provide oversight for associate and manager communications regarding timelines, return-to-work status, and benefit continuity to ensure compliance and consistency
  • Lead open enrollment, including benefit administration, data accuracy of benefit information, benefits event planning, program renewals, communications and file feeds.
  • Lead day to day activities related to benefit programs including. Ensure that programs are aligned with current regulations and in support of Sendik's benefit strategy.
  • Make recommendations to plan design, benefit offerings, and overall strategy to support associates and company needs.
  • Develop and execute benefit communications to enhance associate understanding of programs; implement and administer new plans or special projects.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations for plan design, benefit offerings, and overall strategy to meet associate and company needs.
  • Oversee 401(k) enrollment and maintain electronic data files with high accuracy
  • Maintain electronic data files and update as needed
  • Conduct reporting and administration of regular projects/initiatives, including but not limited to, flu shots, Medicare notifications, COBRA, tax compliance (1095-C) and more
  • Ensure administrative procedures for benefit processing is kept up-to-date
  • Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned
  • Assist in the stores during peak holiday seasons as needed

Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of benefit related experience; specifically including direct experience with self-funded insurance plans
  • Proven experience in benefits administration (Health, 401(k), COBRA).
  • Strong, proven understanding of federal and state regulations, including ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, FMLA, and ADA
  • Experience working within HRIS system
  • Proficient in computer programs, such as, Word, Excel and Google Docs
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels, internally and externally
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to address situations independently
  • Strong sense of security and ability to handle sensitive information
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent time management, prioritization and organization skills
  • Ability to work at a fast paced and efficient manner, adapting to changes to meet deadlines
  • Strong sense of team - ability to anticipate the needs of the team
