The College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) is seeking an Administrative Manager to lead the college's administrative operations and support the Dean and leadership team in advancing the college's academic and operational goals. This position serves as a key member of the college's leadership team, overseeing complex administrative processes, ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures, and fostering collaboration across faculty, staff, and university partners. The successful candidate is an experienced leader who excels at managing competing priorities, developing and supporting employees, solving complex challenges, and building strong working relationships in a dynamic academic environment. Experience in higher education or academic administration is preferred.
As the Administrative Manager, you'll play a key leadership role in the daily operations of the College and serve as a trusted advisor to the Dean, Associate Deans, and Senior Strategic Budget and Operations Manager. Responsibilities vary on a daily basis and may include time spent addressing complex operational issues, collaborating with faculty and staff on strategic initiatives, and ensuring that college resources, policies, and processes are aligned in support of students and employees.
Success in this role comes from balancing big-picture thinking with attention to detail. You'll oversee administrative operations, provide guidance on university policies and procedures, coordinate across departments, and help translate institutional priorities into effective day-to-day practices. You'll work closely with faculty, staff, students, university leadership, and community partners, building strong relationships and fostering collaboration across a wide range of stakeholders.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, managing competing priorities, and leading through change with professionalism and sound judgment. The ideal candidate is an approachable leader who communicates clearly, builds trust, and creates an environment where people feel supported and empowered to do their best work. This position occasionally represents the Dean or Associate Deans in meetings and discussions, requiring confidence, diplomacy, and the ability to make informed decisions on behalf of the College. Strong written, verbal, and electronic communication skills, along with effective mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities, are essential. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support college events and initiatives. A valid driver's license and the ability to communicate fluently in English are required.
To thrive in this role, a successful candidate will possess least three years progressive responsible experience in business/educational management and administration, employee supervision, and team leadership experience, along with significant experience with written, oral, and interpersonal communication in a highly professional, public service work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least three years progressive responsible experience in business/educational management and administration, employee supervision, and team leadership experience, along with significant experience with written, oral, and interpersonal communication in a highly professional, public service work environment or a combination of education, training, and professional experience to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
Preferred: Master's Degree, knowledge of post-secondary education administration, collective bargaining agreements, and human resources.
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 80, based on education and experience.
