Job description

Position Summary
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing parish and school communications in support of the mission of St. John the Baptist Parish and School and in alignment with the vision, priorities, and direction of the Pastor. This position oversees print and digital communications, promotes parish and school life, and ensures consistent, accurate, and timely messaging across all communication platforms.

Reports to Director of Administrative Services
Approximately 25 hours per week, with flexibility while meeting weekly deadlines

Catholic Identity and Mission
Support the mission, teachings and values of the Catholic Church in all aspects of this role. Carry out responsibilities in a manner consistent with the mission of the parish and school, fostering a respectful, service-oriented, and faith-centered environment. All duties are to be performed with a commitment to strengthening the parish community in accordance with the doctrines, laws, and norms of the Catholic Church.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in communications, media, or marketing preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital platforms, publishing tools, and social media.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and consistency in messaging.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and leadership.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communication Planning and Implementation:
  • Coordinate internal and external communications for parish and school activities.
  • Prepare and distribute communication materials including the weekly bulletin, parish emails and announcements, and printed and digital materials.
  • Ensure communication is accurate, timely, and aligned with parish priorities.

Digital and Media Communication:
  • Manage communication platforms including website, social media, parish email systems, and digital signage.
  •  Keep content current, engaging, and consistent with parish mission.
  • Support communication strategies that promote engagement, evangelization, and participation.

Brand and Identity Management:
  • Ensure consistency in parish and school branding, logos, messaging, and visual standards.
  • Assist ministries and organizations in producing communications that align with parish communications standards.
  • Maintain and share communication templates and style guides.

Communication Effectiveness:
  • Monitor communication effectiveness through website analytics, email engagement, social media metrics, and participation trends.
  • Provide periodic reports and recommendations to improve communication effectiveness and parish engagement.

Content Development:
  • Capture and develop content, including photography, stories, testimonials, videos, and event highlights that promote parish and school life.
  • Maintain a shared library of approved photos and communication resources.

ADA Physical Requirements
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Frequent use of computer, phone, and standard office equipment is required. May occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
