Can you make a living as an adjunct?

Adjunct faculty often earn part-time wages that may not be sufficient for a full-time living, as their pay is typically per course and varies by institution. Factors such as experience, discipline, and geographic location influence pay rates and earning potential.

How much do adjuncts get paid per class?

Adjunct instructors typically earn between $1,500 and $3,000 per course, depending on the institution, subject, and location. Pay rates can vary based on experience, credentials, and whether the position is part-time or full-time, with some colleges offering additional compensation for online or specialized courses.

Why is adjunct pay so low?

Adjunct pay rates are typically low because these positions are part-time, often without benefits, and require minimal hours compared to full-time faculty roles. Institutions may also allocate limited budgets for adjuncts, and the work often involves teaching a small course load with limited job security.
