Job description

Job Title: Adjunct Instructor - English as a Second Language (ESL)
Department: International Programs
Employment Type: Part-Time, Adjunct (Casual Hire)
Location: Kapolei, Hawai'i (on-campus teaching required)
About Hawaii Tokai International College:
Hawaii Tokai International College (HTIC) is a junior college accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). Through customized short-term programs, HTIC's International Programs Department offers intensive English and cultural learning experiences for students of various ages and backgrounds.
Position Summary:
HTIC seeks qualified ESL instructors to teach in short-term, customized programs. Appointments are casual, part-time, and vary in length (from a few days to eight weeks). Instruction schedules typically range from 90 minutes to 3 hours per day.
Responsibilities:
  • Plan and teach ESL classes in areas such as conversation, reading, writing, culture, or English for specific purposes (e.g., business, nursing).
  • Facilitate interactive, task-based learning experiences.
  • Incorporate program objectives into lesson design and assessment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure program quality.
  • Support a multicultural classroom that respects linguistic and cultural diversity.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Applied Linguistics, Education, or related field.
  • ESL teaching experience.
  • Strong English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Knowledge of ESL teaching methods.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field.
