What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Addiction RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Addiction RN, you need a solid background in nursing practice, addiction treatment protocols, and mental health care, typically with an active RN license and experience or certification in addiction or behavioral health nursing. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), detoxification management tools, and substance abuse screening instruments is highly beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills, compassion, and crisis intervention abilities help Addiction RNs build trust and effectively support patients through recovery. These competencies are essential to provide safe, evidence-based care and facilitate positive outcomes for individuals struggling with addiction.
