Job description

As an Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) Engineer, you are the primary escalation point for Data Center Technicians within your assigned region. You are an expert at troubleshooting hardware-based problems including but not limited to: server level hardware, fiber and copper cable paths, networking equipment, and related problems. You have an interest in the services used to maintain and manage hardware within the datacenter. You use this knowledge and excellent communication skills to work with multiple internal teams to troubleshoot and solve complex problems for our customers. You enjoy leading several projects at once and love to learn and be curious. This position will support multiple separate sites.
ADC Engineering combines operational support and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant services and systems dedicated to U.S. Government customers. ADC Engineers ensures that AWS services - both our internally and externally-visible services - continually raise the bar on security, availability, and scalability. Additionally, ADC Engineers keep an ever-watchful eye on our systems' capacity and performance. Much of our focus is to optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. You will have the opportunity to manage the complex operational challenges of scale, which are unique to AWS, while using your expertise to work with other teams and engineers to drive large-scale system decisions.
This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
Key job responsibilities
- Deep dive escalated hardware issues and provide clear guidance to Data Center Technicians.
- Assess possible systemic issues then identify and work with the owning team(s) to solve complex problems at scale.
- Initiate service improvements in the production environment
- Perform incident response, event management, and blameless Correction of Errors processes.
- Automate common tasks and processes
- Work with other engineers to diagnose and resolve customer issues
- Track the health of our services, identify and fix problems on complex systems with massive scale
- Collaborate with some of the leading minds in distributed systems
A day in the life

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or 3+ years of technical work experience
- 2+ years of server hardware troubleshooting and repair experience
- 2+ years of Linux experience
- Knowledge of scripting languages (bash, python, etc.)
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of software development, or 5+ years of technical support experience
- 2+ years of computer networking experience
- Experience with performance and log analysis
- Experience working in a data center environment (racking and stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment)
- 2+ years automating routine tasks using Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl, etc.
- Experience troubleshooting all levels of the OSI model
- Ability to lift up to 40lbs and worked in a cramped and/or elevated environment

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
