What is an ACPE Chaplain Educator Candidate?

An ACPE Chaplain Educator Candidate is an individual enrolled in a program accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) to become a Certified Educator. These candidates undergo rigorous training in clinical pastoral education (CPE), teaching, and supervision of chaplaincy students in healthcare or other ministry settings. Their role involves developing skills in spiritual care, education, and leadership, as well as meeting specific competencies set by ACPE. The process includes mentorship, supervised practice, and formal evaluations before eligibility for certification. This pathway prepares candidates to teach and supervise future chaplains and spiritual care providers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ACPE Chaplain Educator Candidate?

To thrive as an ACPE Chaplain Educator Candidate, you need a background in theology or ministry, completion of at least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), and endorsement from a recognized faith group. Familiarity with ACPE standards, supervisory education methods, and documentation systems is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to mentor and facilitate group learning are vital soft skills for this role. These competencies are crucial for effectively guiding chaplain interns and residents, ensuring high standards of spiritual care, and fostering professional growth within diverse clinical settings.
