Certified Educators assist the Director of CPE and Manager of CPE in the operation of the Clinical Pastoral Education Program. Certified Educators provide education and supervision of CPE students. Certified Educators reflect Mercy's mission, values, and charisms, strengthening a modern spiritual care approach that honors our tradition while expanding the reach of CPE and spiritual care through emerging innovations.

Job Overview
The ACPE Certified Educator provides educational leadership, clinical supervision, and program support for Mercy's ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) programs. This role partners with Mission leaders, Spiritual Care teams, chaplains, and learners to deliver high-quality educational experiences that support spiritual care excellence across Mercy.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support and maintain ACPE accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Develop, administer, and enhance CPE programs for Level I, Level II, and Certified Educator Candidates (CEC).
  • Provide educational and clinical supervision to CPE students in both in-person and virtual settings.
  • Participate in student recruitment, admissions, interviews, orientation, and evaluation processes.
  • Collaborate with the Director of CPE, Spiritual Care leaders, Mission leaders, and chaplain colleagues.
  • Maintain required records, reports, and accreditation documentation.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports interfaith and ecumenical dialogue.
  • Integrate Catholic identity, theology, sacramental ministry, and Mercy culture into educational programming.
  • Engage in continued professional development through research, curriculum development, and participation in the broader ACPE community.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate Theological Degree

Experience
  • 2+ years as an ACPE Certified Educator Candidate

Certification
  • Certified Educator Eligible through ACPE (Phase II Committee completed within 6 months of hire)
  • Board Certified Eligible through a recognized chaplain certification organization
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience as an ACPE Certified Educator
  • Certified Educator, National Faculty through ACPE
  • Board Certified Chaplain
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of ACPE standards and educational practices
