POSITION SUMMARY:ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 

The Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in designing and developing innovative, high-performance power supply solutions that meet customer requirements and regulatory standards. This position is responsible for the mechanical design of sheet metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assemblies, and other critical components, while optimizing thermal, acoustic, and vibration performance through simulation, testing, and analysis. The role also includes 3D PCB layout collaboration, prototype development, and hands-on validation, providing the opportunity to influence products from concept through production.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop efficient and cost-effective power supplies per customer and regulatory specifications (i.e., sheet metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assemblies, water cooled coldplates, etc.) including thermal design and simulation, 3D board Layout and prototype testing
  • Work in a team environment with hardware engineers, electrical engineers, firmware engineers, and program managers on product development of extensive scope
  • Utilize strong communication and team skills. Persuading and gaining agreement with cross functional teams (hardware) and the ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels of an organization
  • Participate in design reviews to improve mechanical and thermal design
  • Exercise engineering judgment to select and develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to secure project success
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
  • Interface with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are met
  • Responsible to diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, root cause/failure analysis, reliability and manufacturing test yields of existing power supply products using formal investigation methods and to recommend/implement corrective actions to address

  • Environment: Works in a noisy fast-paced power development lab and standard office environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ownership resulting in responsiveness to work requests and customer deadlines
  • Ability to follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be obtained
  • Ability to learn and use professional concepts appropriate to engineering, including analytical methods, computer aided analysis and design tools, diagnostic instruments and test equipment, lab skills appropriate to design, selecting appropriate components and materials for designs
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills

EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design of power electronics or similar
  • Experience with Metal / Plastic part design for power electronics; sheet metal tooling and knowledge of injection-molded processes
  • Design for manufacturing experience, and knowledge in GD&T
  • Experience with Solidworks, Pro-E, FloThermXT Or FloEFD, ANSYS and/or Solidworks Simulation a plus

Desirable:

  • Proven track record of product development from concept through to production
  • Previous experience designing for Safety, Compliance, and thermal management
  • Good verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Bachelor's (BSME) degree from four-year college or university

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting.ย  Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.ย  The range of starting pay for this role is $75,000ย to $105,000ย per year.ย ย ย
