JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
This position, under general supervision, are responsible for the design of new products and ensuring that they meet performance, quality, manufacturing, and cost requirements for Standard (Behind the Ear - BTE) and/or Custom (In the Ear - ITE) products. Must possess communication ability, technical expertise, creativity, and internal drive to lead the creation of designs that are recognized as best- in-class in the hearing aid industry. Must be able to work well in a team environment and have a passion for continuous improvement. Engineer II signifies that at least 55% of the new competencies of the next higher career "track" have been achieved.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS
- Generate component requirements and review and contribute to system performance requirements.
- Lead the Electro-Acoustic Engineering team in documenting specific requirements in the SyRS's and the SDR's using the Hardware Development Hearing Aid Design Guide as a high-level reference.
- Work with the Project Manager to manage work efforts to ensure project schedules are met and areas of high risk are identified and mitigated with appropriate risk mitigation plans.
- Follow the Electroacoustic Engineering Product Development Process.
- Perform electrical and electro-acoustic design tasks and provide input into project timelines and schedules.
- Provide project status updates at team meetings as required.
- Collaborate with other cross-functional team members to create and maintain DFMEA documentation which ensures that risks are identified and mitigated.
- Design new and innovative standard and custom hearing aids and other auxiliary devices which meet product requirements.
- Integrate new technologies into product designs in conjunction with boundaries as defined by the Research and Technology group with support from a Sr. Electrical Engineer - EA Eng.
- Perform electrical and electro-acoustic design of custom and/or standard hearing aid products and associated accessories.
- Perform testing and analysis of hearing aid components from industry suppliers.
- Provide hybrid and flex design support.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical performance issues.
- Act as technical interface between EA Engineering and other departments.
- Lead design reviews, decision analysis and participate in Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) meetings.
- Analyze component and assembly costs to ensure the designs meet requirements.
- Ensure design verification and validation testing is completed and ensure that all criteria are met.
- Plan and perform design verification testing to ensure the designs meet product requirements.
- Support design validation testing for all new parts and assemblies.
- Aid prototype thru production debugging efforts to ensure that design intent is met, and parts are acceptable for form, fit and function.
- Support the transfer of new designs into manufacturing
- Create and approve engineering and production release documents for prototype and production parts, sub-assemblies, specifications, etc.
- Provide technical support to production and manufacturing
- Work with a cross-functional team to ensure that all manufacturing and performance requirements are met.
- Work with cross-functional teams to develop and verify manufacturing processes and fixtures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical performance issues
- Maintain and support existing products and features
- Serve as technical interface to the Continuation Engineering department
- Provide technical support to resolve issues pertaining to existing products
- Attend industry and technical conferences to stay up-to-speed on trends and issues related to hearing aid development
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of industry experience in a product development environment required; analog or digital circuit design preferably in audio and engineering internship experience; or master's in lieu of Bachelors with minimum of 0 years of experience and engineering internship experience.
Knowledge / Technical Requirements
- Intermediate proficiency with schematic and layout CAD packages. (required for EE II)
- Intermediate proficiency with circuit simulation tools. (required for EE II)
- Proficiency with printed circuit board analysis software and tools. (required for EE II)
- Intermediate working knowledge of DSP technology. (required for EE II)
- Intermediate working knowledge of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog circuits. (required for EE II)
- Intermediate knowledge of acoustics and hearing aid design.
- Intermediate knowledge of product development best practices (i.e. DFM, DOE, DFMEA, Lean PD, EMC, etc.). (required for EE II)

Salary and Other Compensation:
The target pay rate for this position is between $66,200 - $82,500 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
