Hours: 1 hour/day
Salary: $25.36 - $31.53
Purpose: In cooperation with a classroom teacher, this person will assist the teacher by working with individual students or small groups to achieve academic skills. May also assist with classroom supervision, clerical duties, set up and cleanup of activities, or other tasks to support the teacher and students.
Essential Functions:
1. Work with students or small groups of students to deliver and /or reinforce academic skills.
2. Distribute and collect classroom materials as requested by the classroom teacher.
3. Assist with supervision of students as needed.
4. Assist individual students as needed with clothing, hygiene, or cleanup routines.
5. Work cooperatively with the teacher to ensure the effective running of the classroom.
6. Communicate with office staff as needed or requested.
7. Other related duties as assigned.
Successful performance of this position requires an individual who can demonstrate the following competencies:
1. Problem Solving: Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner with minimal supervision. Gather and analyzes information and maintains confidentiality.
2. Interpersonal Skills: Remains open to ideas, exhibits a cooperative attitude.

Professional Qualifications:
1.High school diploma or equivalent required AND 72 quarter/48 semester credits OR AA/AS OR pass the state exam for paraprofessionals.
2. Instructional paraprofessionals, as defined by the state per WAC 179-01-020, are required to complete the Fundamental Course of Study and General Certificate per the state guidelines.
3. Experience working with children, preferably in an academic environment.
4. Demonstrated academic proficiency comparable to grade level and subject area assignment.
5. Acquire and maintain first aid/CPR certification.
6. Basic computer skills to include MS Office software.
Physical Requirements/ Environmental Conditions:
1. Stand for long periods of time.
2. Stoop, bend, walk, run.
3. Work in noisy environments.
4. Physically assist students.
5. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing.  The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Benefits:
School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination: All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.
Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.
