POSITION DESCRIPTION
  • Baker School District is currently seeking ae candidate for one School Counselor or Child Development Specialist position at South Baker Intermediate for the 2026-2027 school year.
  • Orientation: August 11, 2026.

POSITION OVERVIEW
• The primary purpose of this position is to assist students in reaching their full potential for intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and psychological development and growth, and to assist in maintaining a safe and secure school environment. Specific responsibility to coordinate all pupil personnel services for all students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Implement the "comprehensive school counseling program".
2. Provides direct services through the Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning and Preventive and Responsive Services.
3. Provides program management, system support and accountability.
4. Establishes the school counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program.
5. Involves school staff in making decisions about the school counseling program.
6. Provides individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive and remedial needs of students.
7. Develops 504 to meet individualized student needs to ensure academic success and access to the learning environment.
8. Coordinates the implementation of the 504.
9. Consults with students, parents, teachers and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students.
10. Coordinates all counseling services for students and assists with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school.
11. Assists teachers with the Guidance Curriculum.
12. Accurately interprets test results and other student data.
13. Assists teacher and TAG Coordinator with the educational placement of students by suing appropriate educational assessment strategies.
14. Conducts parent education and provides consultation services to parents.
15. Cooperates with community agencies for referral services.
16. Works with the principal to complete the "Summary of School Year Activities".
17. Adheres to ethical standards of the counseling profession and abides by the laws, policies and procedures that govern schools.
18. Upgrades professional knowledge of skills when needed.
19. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position requires the candidate to hold, or be eligible to hold, an Oregon School Counselor License, or be eligible to receive approval through ODE as a Child Development Specialist.

SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor Degree required; Master Degree in school counseling preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) in a counseling environment preferred.
  • Demonstrate ability to relate positively and work collaboratively with students, teachers, administrators, employers, parents, and the community to achieve best outcomes.
  • Demonstrate high level of skill working with both students and adults, at problem solving and deescalating conflict.

SALARY INFORMATION
  • The annual certified salary schedule for the 2026-2027 school year is $62,736 - $90,467, for 1.0 FTE for employees with an unrestricted TSPC license ($47,053 annual salary for employees with an Emergency/Restricted TSPC License). Baker School District allows all teaching experience years within the U.S. (substitute years not included) and education to be used in placing the teacher on the salary schedule. Currently, teacher contracts are approximately 175 days with a four-day work week. Certified staff report for approximately one Friday per month for meetings and PD activities.
  • Baker School District 5J offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package with multiple choices available to employees. Benefits offered include medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, long term care, tax-deferred retirement savings plans, and more. In addition, the District shall pay the six percent (6%) employee contribution (PERS) required by ORS 238.200 and ORS 238A.330. Insurance will be September 1, 2026.
