Job Summary:
UCP Staffing is looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to accuracy. This role will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including maintaining financial records, preparing financial reports, processing payroll and assisting with audits. Essential Job Functions:
The Staff Accountant focuses on essential daily accounting and payroll duties, primarily in managing the company AR and including maintaining financial records, preparing financial reports, processing payroll, assisting with audits and company culture building. The position requires independent judgement, discretion, and decision-making in matters of significance related to company accounting, finance, and payroll operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Accounts Receivable/Payable: Lead the management of the accounts receivable for the company. Identify and resolve any issues or inefficiencies in the process and manage the team members involved. Process invoices, manage vendor payments, and handle customer billing inquiries.
  • Payroll: Review, validate, and approve payroll data; exercise discretion in resolving payroll discrepancies and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • General Ledger: Reconciliation of general ledger accounts, ensuring alignment with GAAP and organizational objectives. Identify and resolve discrepancies using sound judgment and financial expertise.
  • Month-End Close: Take ownership of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by coordinating timelines, resolving variances, and recommending adjustments to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and deliver insightful financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports) and provide variance analysis to support strategic business decisions.
  • Bank Reconciliations: Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
  • Expense Management: Analyze and approve employee expense reports; interpret and enforce policy compliance while recommending policy adjustments to reduce cost or risk exposure.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Audit Support: Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external auditors. Prepare audit schedules, lead documentation efforts, and respond to audit inquiries with strategic insight and data-backed justifications.
  • Process Improvement: Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to accounting processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Project & Cross-Functional Support: Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects impacting finance, such as software implementations, policy changes, or operational reviews. Apply financial leadership to help drive key company initiatives.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in an Accounting or Finance role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle NetSuite, etc.) and Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • CPA certification or working towards certification is preferred.
  • Experience with staffing or construction is preferred.

Hours, Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Regular office hours are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • The role of the Staff Accountant may vary depending on the needs of the business. Nights and weekend hours occur and can be periodically needed.
  • This position is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and/or hear for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or more than 50 pounds.
