Job description

Accounting Clerk / Accounts Payable Specialist

Compensation: $25.00–$35.00 per hour
Employment Type: Contract
Schedule: Full-time or as needed based on business requirements


Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting / Accounts Payable Specialist to support day-to-day accounting operations on a contract basis for future roles. This is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and experience working with financial transactions, reconciliations, and accounting processes.

The successful candidate will work closely with the accounting and finance team to ensure accurate and timely processing of financial information while maintaining appropriate documentation and internal controls.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable invoices, payments, and related documentation accurately and timely.
  • Review invoices and supporting documentation for accuracy, coding, and proper approvals.
  • Assist with account reconciliations and research discrepancies as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain accounting records, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Enter and maintain financial data within accounting systems.
  • Monitor outstanding invoices, payments, and account balances.
  • Assist with general ledger activities and other accounting functions as assigned.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding invoices, payments, and account information.
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial records in accordance with company policies.
  • Support the accounting team with special projects and process improvements as needed.


Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in accounts payable, accounting, bookkeeping, or a related finance function.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience with accounting or ERP software; familiarity with Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
  • High level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential financial information.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-volume accounts payable or accounting environment.
  • Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close.
  • Familiarity with ERP/accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
