Job description

Salary: $30 - $38/hour, depending on experience

Senior Bookkeeper / Business Operations Assistant

Full-Time | In-Office

A locally owned and growing multi-company organization based in Southwest Michigan is looking for an experienced, highly organized, and dependable Senior Bookkeeper / Business Operations Assistant to own day-to-day accounting and help keep a small, fast-moving office running smoothly across multiple entities.

This isn't a transactional bookkeeping role. The team needs someone with strong technical bookkeeping skills who can also work independently, think proactively, and take on the operational and administrative pieces that come with running a growing business vendor coordination, tenant and property support, technology decisions, and day-to-day problem-solving. You'll report directly to executive leadership and have real visibility into how the business runs.

This position is a genuine jack-of-all-trades role one day you might be closing out reconciliations in QuickBooks, the next you're coordinating a vendor repair or helping show an available space. It's a strong fit for someone who enjoys that variety, takes ownership of their work, communicates well with others, and is comfortable balancing accounting responsibilities with day-to-day operational support in a smaller business environment.

What You'll Be Doing

Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting across multiple entities
  • Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, and reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks Enterprise
  • Support monthly close, financial reporting, and cash tracking
  • Perform bank reconciliations and maintain organized accounting documentation
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and year-end preparation
  • Process invoices, vendor payments, and credit card reconciliations
  • Maintain thorough, accurate files and documentation

Office & Business Operations Support

  • Own daily office operations and administrative coordination
  • Build and maintain organized systems, workflows, and internal processes
  • Coordinate directly with vendors, tenants, contractors, and outside partners
  • Partner with leadership on operational projects and see them through to completion
  • Answer incoming calls and support general office needs
  • Work independently while contributing to a collaborative, team-oriented office

Property & Tenant Coordination Support

  • Support select property management tasks as needed
  • Help coordinate tenant communication and maintenance requests
  • Assist with leasing documentation and administrative follow-up
  • Occasionally show an apartment, office, or building space
  • Provide continuity and support during operational transitions

What We're Looking For

  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills who works well independently
  • Genuine jack-of-all-trades mindset equally comfortable behind the numbers and out front handling whatever the day brings
  • Highly organized with strong follow-through and project coordination ability
  • Comfortable in a small office environment, handling responsibilities both large and small
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to prioritize, manage multiple responsibilities, and maintain an efficient workflow
  • Comfortable with technology and learning new systems
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality

Preferred Experience

  • QuickBooks Enterprise experience strongly preferred
  • 35+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or business operations experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices
  • Experience supporting multiple business entities or accounts
  • Experience with AP/AR, reconciliations, reporting, and financial organization
  • Property management, commercial real estate, or small business operations experience helpful but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint)

Compensation, Schedule & Benefits

  • $30$38/hour, based on experience (approximately $62,400$79,040 annually for full-time hours)
  • Full-time, in-office
  • Flexible schedule within standard business hours (approximately 8:00 AM 5:00 PM)
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays
  • IRA retirement benefit available
  • Healthcare benefits are not currently offered
