Our client is a privately held major pipeline and facilities contractor headquartered in Houston, Texas. With over 25 years of experience, they specialize in transmission pipeline construction, station and facilities construction, integrity management, pipeline replacements, and related services for the energy sector, primarily oil and gas, with some carbon capture projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end close activities (Balance sheet reconciliations), including accruals, bank reconciliations, and reviewing A/R and A/P.
  • Manage and review job costing processes: Understand how costs flow through the system, invoice application, and related project accounting (construction industry experience preferred; familiarity with percentage-of-completion concepts is a plus, though not required).
  • Oversee and resolve A/P issues; support the open A/P position and coordinate with the job cost analyst who enters job-related invoices.
  • Manage the relationship with the external firm handling sales/use tax and serve as the point of contact for audits.
  • Support financial reporting: Prepare or review reports, identify variances or anomalies, and ensure accuracy (our VP of Finance and Accounting will handle primary reporting).
  • Collaborate closely with field office teams (office managers and job cost personnel across multiple field teams) to ensure timely invoice processing and accurate project data.
  • Contribute to process improvements using our Spectrum ERP system (module-based, similar to Microsoft Dynamics); leverage existing desktop procedures and videos.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects and take on additional responsibilities as desired; opportunities for growth are abundant in our flat organization.
  • Back up team members and foster a collaborative environment where everyone supports one another.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in construction, oil & gas, pipeline, industrial, or related project-based industries (job costing and understanding cost flows are key).
  • Experience with ERP systems like Spectrum, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar module-based platforms.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger, A/R, A/P, accruals, bank recs, and month-end processes.
  • Have experience leading or supporting annual financial audits.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity beyond basic debit/credit work; ability to spot issues, dig into details, analyze numbers, and drive improvements.

Salary 90-125k + Bonus and percentage increases throughout the years.
