Quaise Energy, Inc

Houston, TX • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 2 days ago

Job description

Quaise Energy is unlocking Earth's deep heat to deliver clean, reliable, baseload energy at scale - almost anywhere in the world. As both a technology innovator and project developer, Quaise builds and operates solutions that harness superhot geothermal energy far below the surface, enabling power generation that can rival the output of today's most efficient fossil fuel and nuclear plants. Leveraging millimeter wave drilling, developed after more than a decade of research at MIT, Quaise's mission is to make superhot geothermal a backbone of the modern energy system, offering affordable, zero-carbon power and true energy independence for communities and nations everywhere.
We are seeking an Accounting Manager to own and strengthen Quaise's general ledger, monthly close, cash and bank reconciliation, prepaids, accruals, intercompany, consolidations, and account reconciliation processes. This role is a critical backbone position for building a close process that is accurate, efficient, well documented, and ready for public-company controls.
The Accounting Manager will support the Controller directly and manage core close and GL activities across multiple entities. The role requires hands-on execution, reviewer discipline, people leadership and cross-functional collaboration. In this role, you will create account reconciliations and supporting documentation, strengthen controls, and build repeatable processes that reduce rework and overtime. Strong ownership, crisp communication, a controls mindset, and the ability to partner effectively across Accounting and Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Commercial, and external advisors is essential. The Accounting Manager will have significant input in establishing department processes and standards, and in growing the accounting function to scale with Quaise's rapid growth.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining a positive corporate culture, promoting a safe and creative work environment, identifying and supporting opportunities for external collaborations, and other activities designed to improve Quaise.
Essential functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.)
Accounting Process Development and Standardization
  • Assist the Controller in designing standardized account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, prepaids, accruals, PP&E accounts, and other accruals.
  • Assist the Controller in designing standardized accounting schedules, including fixed asset and depreciation, lease accounting, Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO), and subsidiary reporting.

Month-End Close and General Ledger Ownership
  • Own recurring close activities, including bank reconciliations, prepaids, accruals, PP&E accounts, payroll-related accruals, legal accruals, G&A allocations, and other general ledger entry reviews.
  • Own monthly close process through managing third-party bookkeeping service and identify opportunities to move close capabilities in-house.
  • Partner with AP, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure entries are complete, accurate, timely, and properly supported.

Reconciliations, Controls and Audit Readiness
  • Own balance sheet reconciliation quality for assigned areas, ensuring reconciliations explain ending balances.
  • Review account reconciliations for completeness, aging, reconciling items, support quality, reasonable explanations, and timely resolution.
  • Support external audit, SOX readiness, and internal control evidence requests for close, reconciliations, allocations, and accrual processes.

Process Improvement and Team Development
  • Identify manual close tasks that can be simplified, standardized, automated, or delegated to staff.
  • Support implementation and use of close management, reconciliation, ERP, spend management, and automation tools.

Competencies
  • Comfortable operating within a startup or high-growth environment with evolving priorities.
  • Ability to operate independently while maintaining strong collaboration across teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to interact well with customers and co-workers, in the field and the office.

Supervisory responsibilities
  • This role does not include formal people-management responsibilities.

Education and Experience
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 6 plus years of progressive accounting experience with strong monthly close and general ledger ownership.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, and close support.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, internal controls, and audit-ready workpaper standards.
  • Experience managing multiple entities, cost centers, intercompany activity, or complex allocation processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort with ERP reports, trial balances, reconciliations, and close analytics.
  • Ability to lead, coach, review work, and partner cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred
  • CPA or CPA track preferred.
  • Public accounting and/or experience at a public company.
  • Experience with Coupa, QuickBooks Online
  • Experience in energy, construction, renewable power, or multi-entity project accounting environments.
  • SOX readiness, process documentation, or system implementation experience.

Physical requirements
  • This role requires prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, as well as use hands to feel, reach, grasp, handle, or operate objects, tools and/or controls.
  • The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, transfer, or move items up 20 pounds at times for departmental needs.
  • Ability to move from one worksite to another or travel to various job sites and locations to complete tasks.
  • The vision requirement includes reviewing written and electronic materials in digital and physical format.
  • Ability to work safely around high voltage and high power systems, consistently prioritizing safe work environments and adhering to established safety protocols and procedures.
  • The employee must be able to adjust to changing work hours and locations as needed considering the strong focus on external communications and relationships.
