We’re partnering with a growing, project-driven organization in the Kansas City area looking for a Project Accounting Manager who can bring structure, financial insight, and leadership to a busy portfolio of projects.

This is not a role where you'll disappear into spreadsheets all day. You'll work closely with Project Managers, operational leaders, and Finance, helping teams understand how their projects are performing and where attention is needed.

If your background is in engineering, construction, architecture, manufacturing, or another project-based environment, we want to hear from you.

Why You Should Apply

  • Up to $115,000 base salary
  • Opportunity to step into a true accounting leadership role
  • High visibility across Finance and Operations
  • Direct partnership with Project Managers and business leaders
  • Growing organization with plenty of opportunity to improve processes
  • Lead and develop a project accounting team
  • Exposure to complex, high-value projects
  • Opportunity to influence profitability, reporting, and project performance
  • Long-term career growth within the organization

What You’ll Be Doing as Project Accounting Manager

You’ll own the accounting behind the projects while helping the business understand what the numbers are actually saying.

  • Lead day-to-day project accounting activities across multiple active projects
  • Manage and develop members of the project accounting team
  • Partner directly with Project Managers to understand project financial performance
  • Oversee project setup, billing, invoicing, and financial reporting
  • Monitor WIP, unbilled activity, revenue, costs, and project profitability
  • Review actual project performance against budgets and forecasts
  • Identify billing issues, margin concerns, and financial risks before they become larger problems
  • Support revenue recognition and month-end close activities
  • Assist with collections and resolve outstanding billing or payment issues
  • Produce project-level financial analysis for leadership
  • Maintain accurate project data within the ERP
  • Strengthen controls and ensure consistency across project accounting processes
  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting and eliminate manual processes
  • Help establish better workflows as the organization continues to grow

What You Bring as Project Accounting Manager

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • Progressive experience in project accounting, job costing, WIP, billing, revenue recognition, or project financial management
  • Experience within engineering, construction, architecture, manufacturing, industrial services, or another project-driven industry preferred
  • Strong understanding of project financials from setup through completion
  • Experience partnering directly with Project Managers or operational leaders
  • Previous leadership, mentorship, or team management experience
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large amounts of financial data
  • Experience with an ERP such as Deltek, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar is highly valued
  • Ability to identify discrepancies and dig into the details until they're resolved
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with both accounting and non-accounting professionals
