Job description

PURPOSE


The purpose of the Accountant I is responsible for completion and maintenance of general ledgers and financial reports. This role has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. This position relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Intercompany Accounting

• Reconcile all Intercompany Accounts Payable and Receivables with SMC affiliates and confirm balances with SMC affiliates on a monthly basis

• Maintain Intercompany schedules of Sales, Purchases, Income, and Expense to support annual audit disclosure requirements

• Process all Intercompany Invoicing, Receipts, and Payments

• Prepare all entries to Intercompany Clearing accounts

Property and Equipment Accounting

• Setup and maintain all fixed assets in SMC Fixed Asset System

• Maintain detailed depreciation lapse schedules by cost center

• Maintain detailed listing of assts by cost center

• Reconcile Fixed Asset sub-ledger to General Ledger

• Maintain schedule of Fixed Asset additions, retirements, disposals and related gains/losses

• Maintain monthly Fixed Asset roll forward schedules

• Assist with annual fixed asset inventory and audit

• Analyze Expensed Equipment and Rental Expense accounts on a monthly basis

General Ledger Accounting

• Process monthly closing journal entries and required accruals

• Reconcile Balance Sheet general ledger accounts on a monthly basis

• Financial Management projects as assigned by Assistant Controller

Financial Reporting

• External Financial Reporting including Parent Company J-Form and External Audit/Review

• Monthly Corporate Level Trial Balance reconciliation and Financial Statement preparation

• Prepare analytical schedules required for External Audit and Review

• Monthly and annual Governmental Reporting

Tax Reporting

• Daily and Monthly Sales/Use Tax Assessment, Client Assistance, Compliance, and Reconciliation

• Annual Federal, State, and Local Income Tax Return Client Assistance Preparation

• Annual Property Tax Client Assistance Preparation

• Annual Expatriate Income Tax: Taxable fringe benefits Client Assistance Preparation, Quarterly Estimated Payments (if needed)

• Annual Business Licensing and Registration Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required

• 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and performance required

• Manufacturing experience a plus
