What is an Accounting HR professional?

Accounting HR professionals are specialists who manage both financial records and human resources functions within an organization. Their responsibilities typically include tasks such as payroll processing, benefits administration, compliance with labor laws, and maintaining employee records. They ensure that financial documentation related to employees is accurate and up to date, and often coordinate between the accounting and HR departments. This dual role helps streamline operations and maintain both financial and legal compliance for the organization.

How does an Accounting HR professional typically balance responsibilities between financial tasks and human resources duties?

In many organizations, the Accounting HR role requires professionals to efficiently juggle both financial and HR-related responsibilities. You might spend part of your day processing payroll, managing benefits, and handling compliance with labor laws, while also reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and supporting audits. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential, as you’ll often switch between handling sensitive employee information and detailed financial data. Collaboration with both the finance and HR teams is common, and clear communication helps ensure accuracy and confidentiality while meeting deadlines. This hybrid role can offer unique career growth opportunities as you develop expertise across both domains.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Accounting HR professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Accounting HR professional, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, payroll processes, and human resources management, typically supported by a degree in accounting, finance, or human resources. Familiarity with HRIS systems, payroll software (such as ADP or Paychex), and accounting tools like QuickBooks or SAP is also essential. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure accurate financial management, compliance with labor laws, and smooth HR operations within an organization.

We're woman-owned, people-first, and passionate about helping small businesses thrive. We don't do tax. We don't do cookie-cutter solutions. We do strategic, everyday accounting that moves the needleand we do it with heart.

Why This Role Rocks

As an Accounting Consultant, you won't just keep the books. You'll guide clients through financial decisions, optimize their systems, and build strong relationships that make a visible impact.

You'll work with a variety of industries and be backed by a team that values quality, communication, and mutual support. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in-person and values hands-on collaboration, accuracy, and trust.

What You'll Be Doing

In this role, you will be part of a client success team delivering clarity and peace of mind to our clients.

  • End-to-end bookkeeping for multiple clients using QuickBooks (Desktop and Online), Timeslips, and other accounting tools to streamline client workflows.
  • Managing key functions including transactional accounting, general ledger, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR).
  • Communicating with clients regularly to plan ahead, clarify financial data, address issues, and build trust.
  • Managing month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting to ensure accuracy and provide clients with actionable insights.
  • Maintaining client records in organized systems for accessibility and audit readiness.
  • Meeting expected billable hours goals and contributing to client retention and firm growth.

We Might Be a Match If You:

  • Have 5+ years of accounting experience and can confidently manage multiple clients
  • Have a customer-centric mindset with the ability to build trust and deliver exceptional service
  • Find value in being a proactive planner and communicator
  • Love bringing structure to chaos and clarity to complexity
  • Are QuickBooks certified or can get certified within 6 months of hire (company-paid)
  • Are tech-savvy, proactive, and comfortable recommending better ways to do things
  • Can explain financial concepts in a way that makes sense to non-accountants
  • Are comfortable working in-person, whether at our office or a client site
  • Bonus points if you have previously worked in client services or an advisory services role

Why You'll Love Working with Us

We're a supportive, women-led team that values respect, clear communication, and professionalism. As part of our small but strong crew, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with small business owners and see the real impact of your work every day. Here's what else we offer:

  • Health & Wellness: Access to a Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement (QSEHRA) to help cover your health insurance costs
