Overview

The Director of Finance & Accounting is responsible for the overall financial health, integrity, and strategic direction of the organization. Reporting to executive leadership, this role provides financial leadership across all aspects of the business, including accounting operations, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, compliance, cash management, and financial reporting. As a key business partner, the Director of Finance & Accounting works closely with executive and operational leaders to provide timely financial insights, identify opportunities to improve profitability, and support strategic decision-making. This leader will drive financial discipline while building scalable processes that support the company's continued growth.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable leading accounting operations and partnering with business leaders to improve operational performance through data-driven financial analysis.

Responsibilities

What Will I Do?

Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Serve as the primary financial advisor to the Location President and senior leadership team.
  • Provide objective, data-driven recommendations supporting strategic planning, growth initiatives, capital investments, and operational decisions.
  • Evaluate business risks, opportunities, and performance trends, and recommend actions required to achieve financial and operational objectives.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the business model, customers, market dynamics, and key operational drivers.
  • Promote a culture of financial accountability, performance management, and disciplined decision-making.
Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Lead annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, long-range planning, and performance management processes.
  • Develop and maintain financial models, scenario analyses, and business cases supporting strategic investments and operational initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze key financial metrics, including revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, EBITDA, cash flow, and return on investment.
  • Provide meaningful variance analysis and forecasting insights that clearly articulate performance drivers, business implications, and recommended actions.
  • Enhance forecasting accuracy through trend analysis, key performance indicators, and leading business metrics.
Business Performance & Decision Support
  • Partner with leaders across Operations, Sales, Service, Installation, Marketing, and Human Resources to improve business performance.
  • Align operational metrics with financial outcomes and provide visibility into the economic impact of business decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve revenue growth, profitability, labor productivity, pricing effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop executive dashboards, management reporting, and performance scorecards that support organizational objectives.
  • Facilitate business reviews and deliver clear, concise analyses that support timely and informed decision-making.
Financial Stewardship & Organizational Effectiveness
  • Collaborate with centralized finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate reporting and effective business support.
  • Continuously strengthen financial planning, reporting, analytical tools, and decision-support capabilities.
  • Serve as a trusted and objective member of the leadership team, providing an independent financial perspective while maintaining alignment with organizational goals.
  • Support the continued development of financial acumen across the leadership organization.
Qualifications

Do I Have What It Takes?

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required.
  • CPA strongly preferred; MBA is a plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
  • Experience leading finance for a multi-location, service-based, distribution, manufacturing, or private equity-backed organization.
  • Strong background in both accounting operations and financial planning & analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with executive leadership to influence business strategy and operational performance.
  • Deep understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives.
  • Exceptional analytical, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting systems.
