The Accounting Manager provides leadership to ensure the Accounting Department successfully meets the ongoing business needs of the Credit Union. This position oversees assigned accounting operations, internal controls, and related accounting activities, which may include financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and other assigned accounting deliverables, while promoting staff development and continuous improvement of systems, processes, controls, and work product. The Accounting Manager develops and maintains accounting practices and procedures to support accurate and timely accounting records, financial information, and other assigned deliverables. This role supervises accounting staff, manages work assignments and deadlines, provides regular coaching and feedback, supports performance management, and addresses team issues as needed to promote accountability, development, and effective team performance.
The Accounting Manager manages competing priorities across a broad range of accounting activities, including month-end and year-end close processes, complex accounting matters, audit and regulatory exam support, and support for enterprise and departmental projects and initiatives. This position also supports Accounting leadership in advancing departmental goals and ensuring assigned responsibilities are completed accurately, timely, and in alignment with Credit Union objectives. This position regularly interacts with senior management and executive leadership, requiring strong leadership, judgment, and communication skills.

Essential Functions:
• Supervise assigned accounting functions, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of accounting activities, deliverables, and related internal controls.
• Manage assigned accounting processes related to month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accounting analyses, expense allocations, intercompany entries, and other assigned close-related activities.
• Lead or support the preparation and review of assigned financial reporting, regulatory reporting, financial surveys, settlements, and related management reporting.
• Support internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and other accounting compliance activities, including managing assigned audit workpapers and supporting documentation.
• Provide direct managerial oversight for designated Accounting personnel, including staff selection, work assignments and schedules, training, active staff development, regular coaching and feedback, performance reviews, performance management, conflict resolution, and promotional recommendations.
• Provide technical accounting guidance for assigned areas of responsibility by exercising sound accounting judgment, resolving complex accounting issues, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable financial institution regulatory requirements, Credit Union policies, and internal controls.
• Promote a high-performance and accountable team environment by ensuring staff perform work with ownership, proficiency, independence, adaptability, and innovation, while meeting departmental standards for quality, accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism.
• Maintain knowledge and proficiency with financial accounting systems and ensure system functionality is effectively utilized to support accounting operations, reporting, internal controls, and assigned deliverables.
• Serve as a liaison for assigned business areas, system initiatives, cross-functional projects, and enterprise or departmental initiatives. Required Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
• 5+ years' experience in technical accounting, accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, process improvement, or related accounting roles, with demonstrated leadership aptitude.
• Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and experience applying accounting principles to complex accounting transactions.
• Ability to guide, support, and develop a team of accounting professionals in a fast-paced environment requiring ownership, accountability, and independent judgment.
• Strong organizational, technical, analytical, and administrative skills.
• Ability to think strategically, identify process improvements, and support departmental priorities and Credit Union objectives and goals.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet established deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Successful candidate should possess the following competencies: Creativity and Innovation, Decision Making, Interactive Communications, Relationship Building, Results Management.
• Complies with all Credit Union policies and procedures including those related to Bank Secrecy Act regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:• Master's degree in business, finance, accounting or related field.
