Job description

Accountant

The Accounting Manager ensures accurate financial recordkeeping, smooth day-to-day operations, and compliance with accounting standards. Responsibilities include managing accounts payable/receivable, processing payroll, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports. The role also maintains proper documentation for tax filings and supports budgeting and cash flow management.

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys maintaining organized financial systems and thrives in a collaborative environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Financial Recordkeeping & Reporting:

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Track and report on firm profitability, expenses, and cash flow.


Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Process vendor invoices, expense reports, and firm payments.
  • Manage client billing, including trust account reconciliations
  • Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on overdue payments, and assist with collections.


Payroll & Tax Compliance:

  • Process payroll, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Assist with tax filings, including sales tax, payroll tax, and business tax returns.
  • Work with external CPA firms for annual audits and tax preparation.


Trust Accounting (IOLTA Compliance):

  • Maintain and reconcile client trust accounts in compliance with legal accounting rules.
  • Ensure proper handling of client funds and adherence to state bar regulations.


Financial Systems & Process Improvement:

  • Utilize accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or legal-specific platforms) to streamline processes.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Assist with financial software implementation and upgrades.

Desired Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, and CPA or CMA.
