Accounting Manager (Biotech / Life Sciences)
Location: Greater Washington, DC Area (Hybrid)

Overview

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a growing biotechnology organization to identify an experienced Accounting Manager to lead general ledger operations and support financial reporting within a dynamic, science-driven environment.

This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional with strong technical expertise, prior supervisory experience, and a proven ability to operate within a mid-to-large, fast-paced organization. The Accounting Manager will play a critical role in supporting accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with GAAP, and driving process improvements as the company continues to scale.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Manage general ledger operations, including journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
  • Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations to leadership
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Support audit processes, including preparation of schedules and documentation
  • Partner cross-functionally with finance, operations, and other departments to improve reporting and processes
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
  • Assist with system enhancements and process optimization initiatives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory experience
  • Strong general ledger and technical accounting background required
  • Experience working within mid-to-large organizations preferred
  • Public accounting and corporate accounting experience is a plus
  • CPA designation preferred, but not required
  • Experience with large ERP systems (e.g., JD Edwards, NetSuite, or similar) preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in biotechnology, life sciences, or a highly regulated environment preferred
  • Exposure to complex accounting areas such as revenue recognition, leases, or technical accounting
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance, or financial reporting in a growth-oriented company
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and enhance operational efficiency
