Description Do Great Things. Durham Technical Community College is hiring an adjunct instructor in the Translation/Interpretation Programs.The Instructor is responsible for course preparation, delivery, grading, and records management. The Instructor will work closely with his or her Program Director on matters related to and for the benefit of the Center for the Global Learner and its students

Pool positions are used to identify qualified candidates in advance, allowing us to fill roles more efficiently when vacancies occur. Examples of Duties Teach all courses, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction, including seated, online, hybrid, academic success, and/or interdisciplinary capstone courses as needed at any of Durham Tech's instructional sites. Be fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course.

Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with institutional rules and regulations. Maintain complete course and student records, reports, and forms. Stay current with developments in the field of instruction.

Assist in the revision and development of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation and in the identification, development, preview, and acquisition of educational resources and supplies required to meet program objectives and improve instruction. Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the program director, chair, department dean, chief instructional officer, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college. Assume responsibility for laboratory/classroom preparation, including maintenance and cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipment.

Complete, maintain and/or participate in professional development activities. Minimum Qualifications A Master's degree or a Doctoral degree in Spanish, Translation, Interpreting, or a closely related field; Interpreter and/or translator certification is preferred. Work Experience: Preferred experience teaching translation and/or community interpreting, preferably at a university or community college, and/or experience working as a translator and/or interpreter Supplemental Information Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English; Experience doing translations and/or interpreting in professional settings; A thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System; Competence in oral and written communication and computer skills appropriate for effective teaching and management; Proven sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, faculty, staff, and community groups; Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and interpersonal relations throughout the college and the community; Attention to detail; Active involvement in professional organization(s); Familiarity with current instructional technologies and distance learning; proven record of leadership within area of expertise.

Ability to make presentations to small and large audiences. Competence in Spanish<>English translation and interpretation. Demonstrable native or near-native oral and written communication proficiency in Standard English and Spanish.

Familiarity with local Spanish speaking populations. Demonstrated ability to use appropriate technology to deliver, support, or enhance instruction and to carry out administrative responsibilities. Understanding of principles of adult education and student-centered active learning strategies.

Proficiency in computer technology as evidenced by competence with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word and current instructional technology. Ability to function effectively under stress. Demonstrated conflict resolution abilities.

Ability to adapt to change. Awareness of needs and expectations of student, colleagues, and community groups. Ability to think creatively and put ideas into action.

Good eye/hand dexterity Normal Working Hours: Scheduled meeting times, course preparation, grading responsibilities, and student consultations are included as part of contracted duties. Specific work hours will be determined based on class schedules and in coordination with the supervisor.
