Job description
Position Overview
Nexus Circular is seeking a Project Analyst to support the continued development of our Project Management Office (PMO) and execution of major capital projects.
This is an early-career position appropriate for a recent college graduate or candidate with up to several years of relevant experience. The role is designed to provide hands-on exposure to project management, project controls, engineering, procurement, construction, scheduling, and cost management within an industrial capital-project environment.
The Project Analyst will work closely with experienced project managers, engineers, construction personnel, finance, procurement, and other functional leaders to help maintain project schedules, track costs and commitments, coordinate activities, develop reporting, and identify issues requiring follow-up.
In the near term, this role will support the 6B project and other Nexus capital initiatives, helping improve alignment across disciplines and providing the project team and leadership with accurate, timely information for decision-making.
Business Value of the Role
The Project Analyst provides additional structure and analytical support to the project team while developing the skills required to take on increasing project ownership.
Improve Schedule Certainty
Support the integration of engineering, procurement, and construction activities into project schedules and help identify potential misalignment, dependencies, and delays.
Enhance Cost Control & Forecasting
Assist with cost tracking, commitments, accruals, forecasts, and change management to improve overall financial visibility.
Enable Faster Decision-Making
Develop clear project reporting, dashboards, analyses, and status updates that allow project leadership to identify risks and make informed decisions.
Reduce Execution Risk
Help identify gaps, inconsistencies, outstanding actions, and cross-functional dependencies before they affect field execution.
Scale the PMO Function
Support development of repeatable project-management processes, templates, reporting tools, and standards that can be applied across future Nexus capital projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project Scheduling & Coordination - 25%
- Support the development and maintenance of integrated project schedules across engineering, procurement, and construction.
- Work with project and discipline leads to collect schedule updates and validate activity status.
- Assist with activity sequencing, milestone tracking, durations, and dependencies.
- Develop an understanding of critical-path scheduling and help identify activities that may affect project milestones.
- Support development of short-term look-ahead schedules and project execution priorities.
- Track actions and follow up with responsible team members to support timely completion.
EPC Integration - 10%
- Assist in aligning engineering deliverables with procurement requirements and construction execution plans.
- Track key engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup milestones.
- Participate in cross-functional project meetings and document actions, decisions, and required follow-up.
- Help identify interfaces and dependencies between engineering, vendors, contractors, and field execution.
- Support coordination of project information across internal and external stakeholders.
Cost & Financial Support - 20%
- Assist with project cost tracking, forecasting, commitments, invoices, and accruals.
- Support budget management and change-order tracking.
- Help maintain project cost reports and supporting documentation.
- Work with project managers and finance personnel to validate project cost information.
- Assist with variance analysis between budget, forecast, commitments, and actual costs.
- Develop an understanding of capital-project financial controls and forecasting practices.
PMO Development & Project Controls - 45%
- Support development and implementation of PMO standards, templates, procedures, and reporting tools.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reporting structures for project and leadership visibility.
- Assist in collecting, validating, and organizing project performance data.
- Support development of standardized project controls and governance processes.
- Maintain project trackers for actions, decisions, risks, changes, procurement, and other key deliverables.
- Assist with preparation of project-management and leadership presentations.
- Participate in lessons-learned activities and continuous improvement of project execution processes.
- Take on increasing ownership of project controls and project-management activities as experience and capability develop.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field.
- 0-3 years of relevant professional experience. Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Relevant internship, co-op, academic project, manufacturing, construction, engineering, project-management, or other technical experience may be considered in place of full-time professional experience.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to organize and analyze data using Microsoft Excel and other common business applications.
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, construction, finance, procurement, operations, and project-management teams.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts, software, and project-management processes.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow issues through resolution.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
Preferred Experience
The following experience is beneficial but not required:
- Internship, co-op, coursework, or professional exposure related to project management, project controls, engineering, construction, manufacturing, or finance.
- Exposure to industrial, chemical, manufacturing, energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, or other capital-intensive environments.
- Familiarity with project scheduling tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar software.
- Familiarity with traditional waterfall project-management concepts, including Gantt charts, activity dependencies, resource loading, cost loading, and critical-path analysis.
- Exposure to project cost tracking, forecasting, or financial reporting.
- Familiarity with engineering, equipment procurement, construction contracts, or the EPC project lifecycle.
- Experience developing dashboards, reports, or data analyses using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.
- Exposure to PMO, project controls, or project-governance frameworks.
Why This Role Matters
Major capital projects require coordination across engineering, procurement, construction, finance, operations, vendors, and contractors. The Project Analyst helps connect these workstreams by creating visibility into schedules, costs, deliverables, risks, and outstanding decisions.
For an early-career professional, this position also provides broad exposure to the complete lifecycle of an industrial capital project and the opportunity to learn directly from experienced project, engineering, and construction professionals.
The successful candidate will be expected to grow from providing analytical and coordination support into independently owning defined project controls, workstreams, and project-management responsibilities.
Growth Opportunity
This role is intended to provide a foundation for long-term growth within Nexus Circular. Potential career paths include:
- Senior Project Analyst / Project Controls Analyst
- Project Engineer
- Project Controls Lead
- Project Manager
- Capital Projects Management
- PMO Leadership
- Engineering or plant-support roles within Nexus Circular
As the individual develops, the role can expand from project coordination and analytics into ownership of project scopes, schedules, budgets, contractor interfaces, and capital-project execution.
