Job Summary
The Undergraduate Academic Advisor provides mentoring and advisement for a cohort of undergraduate students to assist in goal setting, academic planning and career exploration through personal follow up/outreach, individual appointments and programming.
Responsibilities
DUTIES 1:
- Meets formally with students to develop meaningful connections using a holistic advising and coaching methods.
- Provide high-quality academic advising services to new and current August University students. This will include guiding advisees to identifying academic, professional, and personal goals that align to their abilities, interests, and the institutions' purpose.
- Maintain accurate and detailed advising notes through the electronic advising system, track advisee performance during and at the end of each semester. Provide intentional outreach to students. Maintain records for current and former students in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Cultivate supportive communication by phone, text, email, and face-to-face with active and prospective students to effectively help students navigate their academic journey. Provide a welcoming and supportive environment, always demonstrated
through utmost professionalism.
- Making use of the skills necessary to process situation critically, recognize crucial gaps in advisees' knowledge and skills and assist students with identifying opportunities to build their strengths.
DUTIES 2:
- Advise and coach students regarding their academic degree requirements which include but are not limited to certification, application, change of major, permissions, test scores, course selection, course withdrawals, grades etc.
- Monitors the retention, progression, and graduation of students within the assigned population, and offer proactive outreach for those students who are at academic or social risk.
- Connect students with appropriate academic and non-academic student services that promote their success; and maintain thorough and accurate documentation of individual advising sessions.
- Maintain collaborative partnerships with student services, faculty, career, and academic staff.
- Work with students, in collaboration with faculty, Dean, and department chairs to develop realistic goals that will contribute to academic and personal success in college. Assist students who present risk factors to develop individual plans for success.
DUTIES 3:
- Utilizes and incorporates best practices identified through the analysis of reports/analytics related to advising activity, student success metrics, etc.
- Contributes to the coordination of unit-level communication plans regarding key milestones, registration deadlines, academic resources, etc.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of events, programs, and resources that support the success of students.
- Attend regular departmental meetings to remain aware of the guidelines or potential issue(s) of curriculum changes.
- Participate in training as necessary to understand the ways technology, student development theory, and equitable and inclusive environments affect advising.
- Membership and participation in profession development opportunities offered through Augusta University, state, regional, and national organizations (NACADA).
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university and 1 year of related experience and one year of related experience.
or
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 2 years of experience in education or customer/student-facing role in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university and experience in higher education.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
