This position reports to a Regional EHS Director. This role is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing clients onsite.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Evaluate novel compounds and well-evaluated hazards for occupational exposure risks, applying the occupational exposure banding (OEB) process to classify hazard levels and determine appropriate controls.

  • Analyze sampling data and independently make recommendations for engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment based on findings.
  • Measure occupational and environmental hazards, such as noise and ergonomics, using calibrated scientific equipment and/or collecting samples of dust, vapors, or gases according to defined operating procedures.
  • Assess the effectiveness of engineering control systems, including fume hoods, containment enclosures, and local exhaust ventilation systems, in pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
  • Conduct workplace safety inspections evaluating the use of personal protective equipment, such as respirators, protective eyewear, and other required PPE appropriate to pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Identify potential physical and health hazards, such as toxic vapors, mold, mildew, and explosive gas-air mixtures, and implement appropriate control measures, such as adjustments to ventilation systems.
  • Investigate accidents and injuries, identifying root causes and recommending remedial actions.
  • Communicate with client personnel regarding workplace safety issues, recommending corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development of occupational health and safety systems, including drafting or updating policies, procedures, and manuals specific to pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.
  • Facilitate and document Job Hazard Analyses, evaluating risk and prioritizing Industrial Hygiene Assessments accordingly.
Basic Requirements
  • 4-5 years of hands-on industrial hygiene experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and/or life sciences settings.
  • Demonstrated experience with making recommendations on appropriate controls required to reduce exposure potential in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute industrial hygiene sampling plans independently, with the confidence to make autonomous recommendations based on direct process observation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, or a related scientific field.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in dynamic, high-stakes environments.
