This is a full-time, benefit eligible position in our Kansas City Office. POSITION PURPOSE:
The Network Engineer I will plan and implement network changes while assuring proper integrity and reliability Bluebird's optical DWDM transport and routed Internet Protocol platforms. In addition to implementing changes into the Network Elements, the position requires the ability to troubleshoot and correct any anomalies that arise from the newly implemented network modifications. The position provides Tiered support to Bluebird's front line Network Operations Center team. This position will be part of our on-call rotation with other Network Engineering Core and Provisioning team members.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
  • 5 to 7 years in Telecommunications/IP-MPLS-Ethernet environment or equivalent Technical Training.
  • Experience in analysis and design of transport networks, LAN and WAN data networks, and/or network management systems to support voice and data services.
  • Experience with equipment configuration programming.
  • College/Technical School degree or equivalent work experience
  • Self-motivated and the ability to make independent decisions based on policies, practices & project requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of PC and software applications.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong technical aptitude for new protocols and technologies with the ability to provide technical support and direction.
  • Customer focused with a desire to exceed expectations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Nokia NRS-II / Juniper JNCIS / Cisco CCNP certification of equivalent experience, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DWDM telecommunications transmission systems, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microwave RF Transmission Technology, preferred.
  • Knowledge of other conventional telecommunications equipment functions, applications, and configurations, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Internet Protocols version's IPv4 & IPv6 and familiar with DDoS detection methods, preferred.
