Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Controller with Warren Whitney, you will be part of a respected and collaborative firm that provides strategic financial leadership to a wide range of privately held and nonprofit organizations. You'll have the opportunity to work directly with business owners and executive teams to strengthen financial foundations, support growth, and drive operational clarity.

This is a standout opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys variety in their work, values flexibility, and wants to make a meaningful impact across multiple organizations, without the burden of building a solo consulting practice.

Warren Whitney offers the best of both worlds: the autonomy to shape your own client portfolio with the support, infrastructure, and benefits of an established firm.

OVERVIEW

As a Controller, you will serve clients in fractional, interim, and project-based roles, providing leadership in day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management. The Controller is a full-time role, eligible for benefits.

You'll work closely with client leadership to:

  • Improve financial systems and reporting
  • Oversee monthly close processes and internal controls
  • Mentor accounting staff members
  • Support strategic planning and decision-making with accurate financial data
  • Manage projects, forecasting, and analysis to support business growth and transitions.
  • Prepare for audits and assist with external reporting
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accounting and/or Finance education and credentials, along with a mixture of public accounting experience as well as industry experience. Experience with nonprofit organizations or small/mid-sized businesses is a plus.
  • Ability to think strategically, balancing big-picture vision with operational detail
  • A track record of adaptability and problem-solving across different industries or company sizes
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience with multiple accounting systems
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Warren Whitney is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We aim to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented individuals from a diverse candidate pool.

Offer conditioned on passing DSS background checks.
