What are 8 hour nursing shifts?

8 hour nursing shifts refer to a common work schedule in healthcare facilities where nurses work for eight consecutive hours per shift. This type of shift is typically structured as three rotations: day, evening, or night, ensuring 24-hour patient care coverage. Many nurses prefer 8 hour shifts because they provide more regularity and can help maintain a better work-life balance compared to longer shifts, such as 12 hours.
