What does a 401k representative do?

A 401K Representative is a professional who helps employees understand, enroll in, and manage their employer-sponsored 401(k) retirement plans. They provide guidance on plan options, investment choices, and compliance with regulations. Additionally, they often assist employers in administering the plan and ensuring that it meets legal requirements. Their goal is to support both employees and employers in maximizing the benefits of the 401(k) plan for retirement savings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 401k representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a 401K Representative, you need a solid understanding of retirement plans, financial regulations, and customer service, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field. Familiarity with recordkeeping platforms, retirement plan administration systems, and certifications like Series 6 or 63 are commonly required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities help build trust and effectively address client needs. These skills are crucial for ensuring clients receive accurate guidance and excellent service while maintaining regulatory compliance.

What are some common challenges 401k representatives face when assisting plan participants, and how are these typically addressed?

401K Representatives often encounter challenges such as explaining complex retirement plan options to participants with varying levels of financial literacy, addressing concerns about market fluctuations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. To address these, representatives use clear communication, tailored educational materials, and ongoing training to stay updated on regulations. They also collaborate closely with plan administrators, HR teams, and financial advisors to provide comprehensive support and guidance to participants.

Job description

Sterile Processing Account Specialist (Hospital-Based)
Warren, MI | Full-Time | Monday-Friday, daytime shift| $60,000-$70,000 (based on experience) + Full Slate of Benefits
Ready to use your SPD experience in a role that's more leadership and problem-solving - and less daily tray assembly?
We're hiring an experienced Sterile Processing professional to support one dedicated hospital account in Warren, MI. This is a hands-on, clinical role where you act as the on-site expert improving workflows, supporting teams, and keeping the OR running smoothly.
No travel. No bouncing between facilities. Just one hospital where you can truly make an impact.
What You'll Get
  • $60,000-$70,000 base salary (based on experience)
  • Monday-Friday schedule (Daytime Shift)
  • No weekends, no holidays, no travel required
  • Health, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO & sick time
  • Stable, full-time hospital-based role
  • Clear pathway into the medical device industry

What You'll Do
  • Partner daily with SPD and OR leadership
  • Ensure tray readiness and case support
  • Audit trays, instrumentation, and workflows
  • Identify and fix inefficiencies before they impact cases
  • Lead hands-on training and in-services
  • Support process improvements and standardization initiatives
  • Serve as the hospital's go-to sterile processing expert

This is not a traditional tech role - you'll spend less time assembling trays and more time improving systems, training teams, and solving problems.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years in Sterile Processing, Central Services, OR, or surgical services
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and tray workflows
  • Comfortable working directly in SPD/OR environments
  • CRCST, CBSPD, or CST preferred

Great fit for:
Senior Techs • Leads • Supervisors • Educators • Managers • OR Liaisons • Clinical Specialists
If you're ready to step out of shift work and into a role with more ownership, visibility, and long-term growth, we'd love to connect. Apply today.
