Description: Community Consolidated School District 89 is seeking a Full-Time Building Nurse for the 2026-2027 school year. This position is for 180 days during a full school year for 7.25 hours a day. The building nurse will support the needs of the students at Briar Glen Elementary School.
Qualifications:
- Completion of requirements for a Bachelor's degree, preferred
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in State of Illinois
- Experience in nursing and completion of a school health orientation program, preferred
- Maintains certification in Child/Adult CPR and First Aid.
- Illinois Certification as a Vision and Hearing screening technician, preferred
- Other qualifications of academic, professional, and personal excellence as the Board may specify.
Essential Duties (Other duties may be assigned.)
Nursing Care
- Provides direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
- Makes decisions and demonstrates leadership that supports the mission, vision, goals, and interests of the district and of students.
- Administers medication with appropriate documentation.
- Participates in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions.
- Performs mandated screening procedures for vision and hearing.
- Performs one-to-one nursing care as assigned.
- Assists classroom teachers as a resource and participation classroom demonstrations (elementary level)
- Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
Communication
- Maintains communication with the District nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parent/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the health and safety needs of students
- Provides health services, information, and counseling in an effective and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.
- Completes accident/incident reports for students/staff
- Maintains athletic physical records for students participating in interscholastic sports (middle school)
- Reports communicable disease to the County Health Department.
- Compiles data for statistical purposes.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.
Organization
- Maintains a daily log of student/staff visits and documentation on individual health records
- Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies
- Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties
- Performs other health or school related work as required.
Salary and Benefits: All non-certified staff that fall under the Support Professional Association "SPA" are placed on a salary schedule according to position and experience as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The hourly range for this position is: $35.00- $38.75.
Non-Certified staff experience 12 sick days and 2 personal days of paid time off. All full-time staff have the privilege of partaking in our health and dental insurance programs (Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance), these include 90% Board paid health insurance for the employee and 100% Board paid dental insurance for the individual staff member
