Job description


The Hyperbaric Technician I is an entry -level, in-training position responsible for supporting the safe operation of hyperbaric chambers in both clinical and research environments. Working under direct supervision, the Technician I assists with preparing chambers and equipment, escorting and monitoring patients or research participants, maintaining daily treatment and safety logs, and performing routine cleaning and setup tasks. This role participants in safety drills, observes chamber operations, and provides support for protocol-driven research activities, including documentation and basic data collection under guidance. The position is designed to build foundational knowledge in hyperbaric medicine and prepare the incumbent to pursue UHMS-approved training and Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHS) and/or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) eligibility, while contributing to the success of USF Health's $28M state-funded clinical trial on hyperbaric oxygen therapy for traumatic brain injury and advancing the Center's mission of research, education, and patient care.
This is a Time-Limited Position. This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship. First shift (5 am - 1 pm) and Second shift (12:30 pm - 8:30 pm)
Responsibilities
Chamber and Equipment preparation - Assist with preparing hyperbaric chambers, equipment, and supplies under the direct supervision of senior staff to ensure readiness for clinical treatments and research dives.
Patient Escort and Support - Escort, prepare, and assist patients or research participants before and after treatments, providing basic instructions, comfort measures, and adherence to study protocols.
Observation and Training Participation - Observe chamber operations, safety drills, and emergency procedures to gain foundational knowledge of hyperbaric medicine while supporting staff during treatments.
Documentation Support - Maintain routine logs, checklists, and study records under supervision, ensuring accurate data capture and compliance with FDA/IRB research requirements.
Facility Upkeep and Safety Compliance - Assist with routine cleaning, disinfecting, and setup of chambers and support spaces, ensuring safe and compliant operations.
Prepares equipment and chambers for treatment under supervision. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains chamber environment. Escorts patients/participants, assists with pre/post dive preparation. Completes logs and daily safety checklists. Observes chamber operations and safety drills.
Learns chamber operation functions under direct supervision. Assists with research protocol documentation (e.g., recording vital signs, study data entry). Participants in emergency drills (role-limited, always supervised). Supports troubleshooting of minor technical issues under guidance of Tech II/III of Safety Officer/Director.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
EMT/Paramedic, LPN/RN, RRT/CRT, Military Corpsman/Diving Medical Technician, Other allied health professional license.
• Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.
• SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
• A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
(a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
(b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
(c) Six years of direct experience for a master's degree;
(d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
(e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
• Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
