Job Description

The CT protocoling technologist will work under the indirect supervision of radiologists and cardiologists to ensure appropriate CT scan ordering, and protocol selection based on patient diagnosis and facilitating technical excellence. The CT protocoling technologist will work with operational managers and CT Team leader to ensure the CT quality program, policies, procedures, and training are maintained and documented to assure safe practices and regulatory compliance.

Responsible for maintaining core CT scanning competencies, he/she will be responsible for ensuring imaging quality, delivering appropriate radiation dose to patients, and protocol management for basic and advanced CT/CTA procedures. Assist in precepting other CT technologists and orienting them to the equipment, and the department imaging protocols and policies. Will work alongside the radiologist/cardiologist to assist with 3D post processing. Must exhibit expertise in utilizing computerized tomography scanners to produce cross-section images of patient's internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues. Adheres to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the Radiologist. Specific duties include the ability to accurately interpret a physician's scanning instructions, administration of contrast material, prepares and operates CT equipment, accurately positions patient to capture appropriate images, transmission of images to interpreting physician for review, ability to work as a team member, follows infection control and safety guidelines. Serves as the primary liaison between patients and radiologists and other members of the support team. Uses professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Participates in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday - Day Shift

Education

Graduate of AMA accredited program in radiologic technology required

Associates degree in radiologic technology required

Bachelor's degree in radiologic technology preferred

Experience

2 years clinical experience as a CT Technologist in a hospital setting preferred

Certification & Licensures

ARRT (R) Registered required

ARRT (CT) Registered required

BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required

** New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation

Qualifications

Must demonstrate high level knowledge in CT image quality, safety, and protocols required

Must demonstrate high level of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology

Maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure techniques

Competency in performing examinations and procedures on patients of all ages required

Demonstrates good working knowledge of PACS, HIS, RIS, department protocols and VH policies required

Excellent leadership and communication skills required

Expertise in the operation of CT scan equipment with attention to detail, understanding of computer technology, ability to work in a stressful environment with the ability to follow directions/instructions from supervisor

Consistent attendance is required to assure that patient needs are met

Must meet the Medical Imaging Tech professional ladder level III criteria
