How much do 3d laser scanning jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 6, 2026, the average hourly pay for 3d laser scanning in the United States is $24.40, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.47 and $28.37 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a 3D Laser Scanning job?

A 3D Laser Scanning job involves using specialized laser scanning equipment to capture precise, high-resolution 3D measurements of objects, structures, or environments. Professionals in this field work in industries such as construction, engineering, manufacturing, and heritage preservation to create accurate digital models. These models are used for design, analysis, documentation, and quality control. The role typically requires knowledge of laser scanning technology, data processing software, and industry-specific applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the 3D Laser Scanning position, and why are they important?

To thrive in 3D Laser Scanning, you should have a solid background in surveying, geometry, and CAD software, often supported by technical training or a degree in surveying, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with 3D laser scanning equipment and point cloud processing software (such as Leica, Faro, or Trimble systems) is typically required, and certifications like Certified Survey Technician (CST) can be beneficial. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and strong communication skills help you effectively interpret data, collaborate with teams, and deliver precise outputs. These competencies ensure accurate data capture and interpretation, which are critical for successful project delivery in engineering, construction, or architecture applications.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a 3D Laser Scanning professional?

As a 3D Laser Scanning professional, your daily tasks typically include setting up and operating laser scanning equipment, collecting spatial data at job sites, and ensuring that scans meet project requirements. You’ll process and register point cloud data using specialized software, generate 3D models or maps, and often prepare reports or documentation for clients or project managers. Collaboration with surveyors, engineers, and architects is common to ensure the accuracy and utility of the data. This role may also involve travel to various field locations and adapting to different work environments based on project needs.
