Job description

Job Description: The Pharmacist position is responsible for oversight of all Retail pharmacy activities of Health West, including services, financial, operation, and professional of the department in accordance with Federal and State Laws and regulations as it pertains to the practice of pharmacy. The Pharmacist assumes a leadership role in planning and delivering patient care in a retail pharmacy setting.
Pharmacist Duties:
  1. Oversight of clinical/Retail pharmacy operations and supplies.
    1. Assuring compliance with legal certifications, dispensing, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
    2. Ordering, or the recommendation of ordering, appropriate pharmaceutical supplies for pharmacy.
    3. Overseeing pharmaceutical dispensing practices in the pharmacy.
  2. Implements policies, procedures, and protocols for the pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, students, residents, and other pharmacy staff to ensure optimal pharmaceutical services that meet legal, accreditation, and certification requirements.
  3. Works with the HR department ensuring the pharmacy staff is licensed, certified, and registered, including sufficient continuing education credits.
  4. Helps oversee training in pharmacies.
  5. Implements pharmacy policies and procedures in the pharmacy.
  6. Supervises any pharmacists or pharmacy students brought on by Health West.
  7. Coordinates monthly financial reporting and analysis for pharmacy for the Director of Pharmacy.
  8. Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement and initiatives of Pharmacy in the pharmacy setting.
  9. Performs other duties as asked or assigned.

340B Duties:
  1. Management of the Federal 340B Pharmacy program in pharmacy setting.
  2. Acting as the liaison between administration and pharmacy and clinic staff to ensure 340B program integrity. Implements Health West policies and procedures in accordance with program requirements as well as provides ongoing 340B training for staff. Attends 340B trainings and monitors for updates in program requirements.
  3. Strives to improve the quality, efficiency, profitability, consistency, and compliance at Health West.
  4. Tracks and monitors utilization, savings, problem areas, and quality discrepancies within the pharmacy. Identifies root causes of adverse trends/issues and assesses options. Makes recommendations and works with Director of Pharmacy to implement solutions. Provides recommendations as needed.
  5. Maintains awareness of 340B regulatory guidance, policy/rule issues and changes, and potential program changes to assure a compliant program across Health West.
  6. Communicates relevant information to Pharmacy Manager and Director.

Education and Experience:
  1. PharmD or bachelor's degree in pharmacy.
  2. Current State license in good standing to practice as a registered pharmacist in the state.
  3. Familiarity with pharmacy software systems and operations, basic word processing, and computer skills.
  4. Assuming other candidate aspects are satisfactory, preference will be given to those with prior pharmacy experience and/or prior management experience.

  6. 340B Apexus ACE Certification preferred (340B University basics must be completed within first 12 months of employment).
