What are 1Sg (First Sergeants) in the military?

A First Sergeant (1Sg) is a senior non-commissioned officer position in the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, typically responsible for the discipline, welfare, and readiness of enlisted personnel in a company-sized unit. They serve as the senior enlisted advisor to the company commander, help implement policies, and ensure that daily operations run smoothly. First Sergeants are key leaders who mentor soldiers, manage administrative tasks, and facilitate communication between enlisted members and officers. Their leadership is critical to maintaining morale, training, and mission success within their unit.
