Overview:
Our client is seeking a Senior Metrology Technician to lead the calibration, alignment, and validation of advanced robotics and robotic welding systems at customer sites across the U.S. This highly technical, field-based role is responsible for ensuring robotic cells meet precise dimensional tolerances from installation through final validation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with FARO laser trackers, PolyWorks, RoboDK, and industrial robotics, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and software issues independently. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge robotic automation systems while supporting large-scale manufacturing installations.

Job Duties:

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot FARO laser tracker equipment in field environments.
  • Align rails, tracks, positioners, and robotic systems using PolyWorks.
  • Calibrate robot base frames and TCPs using RoboDK on Yaskawa/Motoman robots.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy and ensure all robotics systems meet engineering tolerances before customer handoff.
  • Analyze calibration data, resolve out-of-tolerance conditions, and document final results.
  • Generate calibration reports and maintain organized documentation using standardized procedures.
  • Troubleshoot FARO, PolyWorks, RoboDK, teach pendant, and robotics hardware/software issues on-site.
  • Support installation, commissioning, alignment, and recalibration of complex robotic workcells.
  • Travel 60–70% throughout North America to customer facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced proficiency with PolyWorks, including coordinate systems, GD&T, reporting, and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial robotics, robotic calibration, and robotic workcells.
  • Experience with RoboDK software and Yaskawa/Motoman teach pendants.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional tolerancing, measurement uncertainty, and precision alignment.
  • Experience commissioning robotic welding systems, gantries, rails, or automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Python scripting experience for PolyWorks macros and RoboDK API is highly preferred.
  • FARO Certification, CMS certification, or equivalent laser tracker training is a plus.
  • Background in heavy manufacturing, robotic welding, industrial automation, or systems integration preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work in manufacturing environments, wear required PPE, and travel extensively.
