Job description

Job Title: Quality Welding Inspector

Location: Columbus, Ohio 43230 (Gahanna)

Rate: Starting at $22/HR, depending on experience

Position Overview:
The Quality Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all fabricated and machined metal products meet company and customer quality standards. This hands-on position requires strong mechanical inspection skills, the ability to interpret complex drawings and specifications, and proficiency with precision measuring tools. The ideal candidate will have experience in precision metal fabrication, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented job shop environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Inspect fabricated metal products and assemblies for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
  • Perform mechanical inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, prints, geometric tolerances, and weld symbols (GDT).
  • Convert between Metric and English measurements, and between fractions and decimals.
  • Accurately document inspection results and prepare certifications and reports as required.
  • Identify defects and nonconforming products, determine disposition, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support and execute material inspection procedures, calibration systems, and statistical techniques.
  • Operate, program, and calibrate CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) equipment (experience preferred).
  • Maintain compliance with ISO procedures and internal quality standards.
  • Work collaboratively with production teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe inspection area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business needs.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of on-the-job experience in precision metal fabrication or machining quality inspection.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of inspection hand tools and geometric tolerances (GDT).
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
    • Ability to convert Metric and English measurements, and fractions to decimals.
    • Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, or quality reporting systems).
    • CMM operation and programming experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of calibration systems, ISO procedures, and quality standards.
    • Familiarity with sheet metal, welding processes, and finishing operations.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
    • Frequent standing, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy job shop environment.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must reside in Columbus, OH or surrounding areas with reliable transportation.
    • Must pass a background check and drug screen.
    • Forklift or pallet jack experience preferred.
    • Prior experience in a custom fabrication or job shop environment a plus.
