Job description

Position Title: 1:1 Nurse (Elementary School)
Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Student Services
Employment Status: As Assigned / School-Year Position

Position Summary

The 1:1 Nurse provides individualized nursing care and health-related support to a student with identified medical needs during the school day. The nurse works collaboratively with school staff, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers to ensure the student's safety, health, and access to educational opportunities while maintaining compliance with all medical plans and district policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to an assigned student throughout the school day.
  • Implement and monitor physician orders, Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Care Plans (ECPs), and applicable sections of the student's IEP or 504 Plan.
  • Monitor and assess the student's health status and respond appropriately to medical concerns or emergencies.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and specialized procedures as prescribed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records and documentation.
  • Accompany and assist the student during classroom activities, specials, lunch, recess, field trips, transportation, and other school-related activities as required.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, school personnel, and healthcare providers regarding the student's health needs.
  • Train and collaborate with appropriate staff regarding emergency procedures and student-specific health concerns.
  • Promote the student's independence while ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Follow all district policies, state regulations, and professional nursing standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Qualifications

  • Current Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Knowledge of pediatric health conditions, medication administration, and emergency medical procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, transfer, or assist students as necessary.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform routine physical activities throughout the school day.

Work Environment

  • School setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, and parents.
  • May involve exposure to communicable diseases and medical emergencies.
  • Requires continuous attention to student safety and health needs.

Licensure Requirement: Current Ohio RN or LPN License required.

Salary and Benefits: Per Board-approved salary schedule and applicable employment agreement.
