Senior Manufacturing/ Process Engineer

Springfield, Ohio

Full-Time

Position Overview

The Process Engineer is responsible for developing, improving, and optimizing manufacturing processes across welding, fabrication, and paint operations to increase efficiency, ensure quality, and reduce costs. This role works closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to implement lean manufacturing principles, troubleshoot process issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Process Development & Optimization โ€“ Design, document, and standardize manufacturing processes for welding, metal fabrication, and painting operations. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance throughput, reduce waste, and improve product quality. Evaluate and optimize material flow, work cell layouts, and ergonomics.
  • Production Support โ€“ Troubleshoot daily production issues related to welding, fabrication, and painting equipment or process parameters. Develop and maintain process control documentation (e.g., work instructions, standard operating procedures, PFMEAs). Provide technical support to operators and supervisors to ensure consistent process performance.
  • Equipment & Tooling โ€“ Specify, evaluate, and implement new equipment, tooling, and fixtures for improved efficiency and safety. Work with maintenance and vendors to ensure proper setup, calibration, and preventive maintenance of equipment. Monitor equipment performance and suggest upgrades or modifications as needed.
  • Quality & Compliance โ€“ Collaborate with the Quality department to establish process controls and ensure compliance with industry standards (AWS, ISO, etc.). Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for process-related defects or nonconformances. Support documentation and compliance with environmental and safety regulations for painting.
  • Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing โ€“ Apply lean and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce variation, improve process capability, and enhance productivity. Lead kaizen events and cross-functional improvement projects. Collect and analyze process data to drive decisions and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs). Any other duties as required and requested by the Engineering Manager.
Job Qualifications
  • Education โ€“ Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in project management and in a manufacturing engineering capacity.
  • Familiarity with welding, metal fabrication, and/or painting/coating operations.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards and expectations is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with departmental procedure development beneficial.
  • Familiarity with ISO9001/AS9100 Quality systems required.
Ability, Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong Analytical and Problem Solving Abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with CAD Software (Catia, NX) and process analysis tools.
  • Must be thorough and exercise attention to detail.
  • Must be able to set and maintain schedules.

Physical requirements: Carry, finger, grasp, talk, hear, walk, see, sit, and stand. Use computer, telephone, and other machines standard to an office environment.

Work Environment

Office and manufacturing environment, travel (less than 10%).
