Job description

Please note: Effective October 1, 2025, the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services has transitioned to its new name-the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. This change reflects our continued commitment to providing comprehensive, person-centered care that addresses the full range of behavioral health needs for Ohioans. All positions and services now fall under the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health as we move forward in serving individuals, families, and communities across the state.

What you'll do at DBH:

  • Ensure fire safety, health & building code laws are up to date
  • Develop and review and implement health and safety policies and procedures
  • Work with Joint Commission and Barrins during pre-audits/audits on safety
  • Advise employees regarding industry and environment health & safety issues
  • Develop and expand safety programs
  • Serve in consultative capacity to hospital administrators regarding methods and alternatives of compliance with safety, health, fire safety, and building regulations/standards.

This is an hourly position and is exempt from the bargaining units, with a pay range of 13 on the E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm (Flexible Schedule).

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Position Qualifications

24 mos. exp. in fire safety, safety, health & building codes & laws & regulations pertaining to developmental centers & community facility operations (e.g., OSHA, Ohio Fire Code, Life Safety Code, Industrial Commission); 1 course in management or 3 mos. exp. in managerial or supervisory capacity; 1 course in statistics or 3 mos. exp. in application of statistical analysis; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing principles & techniques or investigative procedures & techniques; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in preparing & delivering on-job training or education presentations; valid driver's license. 
-Or completion of undergraduate core program in business administration/management & human resources or management sciences; 1 course in statistics or 3 mos. exp. in application of statistical analysis; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing principles & techniques or investigative procedures & techniques; 3 mos. supervisory exp.; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in preparing & delivering on-job training or educational presentations; valid driver's license.
