Plant Engineering Manager

Plant Engineering Manager - Greenfield Startup, Baked Goods

Based in Columbus, OH, we are a growing food manufacturing company launching a new state-of-the-art baking facility serving premium consumer food brands nationwide.

We're seeking a Plant Engineering Manager to play a key leadership role in the startup, commissioning, and long-term operation of a greenfield manufacturing facility. This position will partner closely with operations, maintenance, quality, and executive leadership to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production while driving capital projects, facility infrastructure, equipment performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support facility startup activities including equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and operational readiness
  • Lead capital projects involving process equipment, utilities, infrastructure improvements, and manufacturing expansion initiatives
  • Manage facility utilities including compressed air, HVAC, boiler systems, water systems, electrical distribution, and ancillary manufacturing infrastructure
  • Drive equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and asset management strategies
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Safety, and Maintenance teams to improve production efficiency, OEE, throughput, and product quality
  • Develop engineering standards, maintenance programs, SOPs, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Lead contractor management, project execution, equipment procurement, and vendor relationships
  • Support food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence initiatives including GMP, HACCP, SQF, and BRC requirements
  • Manage engineering budgets, capital spending, resource planning, and project financial performance
  • Build and develop high-performing technical, maintenance, and engineering teams while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of engineering, maintenance, utilities, reliability, manufacturing operations, or plant leadership experience within food manufacturing or consumer products manufacturing
  • Experience supporting capital projects, facility expansions, commissioning, or startup operations
  • Knowledge of manufacturing utilities, facility infrastructure, production equipment, and maintenance systems
  • Experience managing maintenance, engineering, operations, or cross-functional technical teams
  • Strong understanding of food safety systems including GMP, HACCP, SQF, or BRC
  • Experience operating in high-volume manufacturing environments
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills
