Job description

Security Officer - Faith Mission
Full Time | Nights | 11pm - 7:30 am Tuesday - Saturday
Pay: $20/hr + shift differential
The ideal candidate will share Our Mission: Creating a better world by serving people in need.
Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is currently seeking a Security Officer for Faith Mission in Columbus, Ohio. Faith Mission is one of the largest homeless shelters in Columbus, Ohio, providing meals and shelter to men, women and Veterans with dignity and compassion.
What will I do as a Security Officer with Lutheran Social Services?
  • Performs perimeter checks of Faith Mission shelters and area businesses according to the Good Neighbor agreement to monitor security and safety of physical properties and to guard against loitering.
  • Performs internal inspections of Faith Mission facilities to ensure the security of the building and to check for any security concerns. Monitors suspicious behavior and/or criminal activity & communicates. Communicates any violations of Shelter practices to Shelter Manager, Engagement Staff, or Director, as appropriate.
  • Partners with Engagement Staff to de-escalate any incidents and/or threats of violence.
  • Investigates & responds to security incidents or concerns and responds according to Faith Mission/Lutheran Social Services policies and procedures. This includes any incidents or injuries that occur during "off-shift" hours.
  • Uses Agency vehicles to transport clients, employees and materials as necessary
  • Tracks all occurrences, accidents, or other unusual activity in Security Log and creates shift report for Security Coordinator of all incidents occurring on shift. Proactively communicates any issues or concerns to on-coming shift Security Officer.
  • Conducts searches according to Faith Mission policies & procedures, for Reasonable Suspicion, or as directed by Shelter management.
  • Escorts staff, volunteers, visitors, and other persons as necessary between buildings, parking areas etc.
  • Assists Volunteers with unloading and securing donations.
  • Maintains professional demeanor at all times with residents, donors, volunteers, and other staff.
  • Assist with Shelter laundry services.
Requirements for a Security Officer with Lutheran Social Services:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and insurance.
  • Previous experience in a security role
  • Effective judgment and problem sensitivity skills in order to assess situations and manage to favorable outcomes.
  • Able to communicate and work with a diverse group of individuals & in tense situations.
  • Ability to handle and respond to conflict situations using de-escalation techniques.
  • Experience with computers and MS Office applications.
