Job description

Robotics Structures & Mechanical Engineer

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment: Full-Time or Part-Time, Contingent on SBIR/Contract Award
Experience Level: Early Career / New Graduate
Expected Start: Upon program award and funding

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Robotics Structures & Mechanical Engineer to join an early-stage aerospace and robotics company developing next-generation autonomous robotic systems.

This is an opportunity to join a small engineering team at an early stage and take direct ownership of mechanical design, structural development, prototyping, fabrication, and testing.

This position is contingent upon successful SBIR or other government contract award. Candidates may be selected before an award, with employment beginning once funding is received.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Design airframes, structures, enclosures, mechanisms, and mechanical components for small robotic systems.
  • Develop CAD models, drawings, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Perform structural analysis and engineering trade studies.
  • Select materials and manufacturing processes appropriate for prototype and low-rate production.
  • Design components for additive manufacturing, machining, composites, sheet metal, and other fabrication techniques.
  • Build and modify prototype hardware.
  • Integrate mechanical components with electronics, sensors, communications equipment, power systems, and software.
  • Develop and execute structural and environmental tests.
  • Diagnose failures and rapidly redesign hardware based on test results.
  • Work directly with software, electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers.
  • BS or MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Understanding of structural mechanics, materials, loads, and mechanical design.
  • Experience building physical hardware through coursework, research, student teams, internships, or personal projects.
  • Ability and willingness to work directly with prototypes, tools, and test equipment.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where engineers take projects from concept through fabrication and test.

Experience with UAVs, robotics, composites, additive manufacturing, machining, mechanisms, FEA, or aerospace structures is a plus.

Who Will Thrive Here

We care more about what you can build than how many years you've worked. Candidates who have designed and built aircraft, drones, robots, Formula SAE vehicles, rockets, CubeSats, or other complex systems are strongly encouraged to apply.

You'll be joining a small team where engineers have significant design authority and the opportunity to see their work move quickly from an idea to real hardware.

Important: This is a contingent position. Selection does not constitute a guarantee of employment. Hiring and the anticipated start date depend upon successful contract or SBIR award and availability of program funding.
