Job description

A growing and stable organization is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead core accounting operations with a strong focus on payroll, billing, accounts receivable, collections, and credit management.

This is a highly visible role in which you will partner directly with leadership, drive cash-flow performance, and ensure financial accuracy across the business. Ideal for someone who enjoys both strategic oversight and rolling up their sleeves operationally.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Oversight

Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance

Manage month-end and year-end close processes

3-4 Direct reports

Prepare and review financial statements and reporting packages

Maintain internal controls and financial procedures

Payroll Management

Oversee full-cycle payroll processing (multi-state preferred)

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations

Manage payroll audits, reporting, and benefit deductions

Billing & Accounts Receivable

Lead invoicing and billing processes for accuracy and timeliness

Oversee AR aging and ensure consistent cash flow

Improve billing systems, processes, and efficiencies

Collections & Credit

Drive collections strategy to reduce DSO and improve cash flow

Manage customer credit evaluations, limits, and risk mitigation

Partner with sales and operations to resolve payment issues

Establish and enforce credit policies

Leadership & Collaboration

Partner with executive leadership on financial performance

Work cross-functionally with operations, sales, and HR

Identify process improvements and implement best practices

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

6+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience

Experience in payroll, AR, billing, collections, and credit required

Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting

Experience with ERP/accounting systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, etc.)

Advanced Excel skills

Preferred

CPA or CMA designation

Experience in [industry: manufacturing, staffing, logistics, etc.]

Experience managing or mentoring a team

High visibility with executive leadership
